Many
psychologists feel that a funeral service or memorial ceremony is
helpful to family members and friends who are working through the
grief process.
During
the arrangement conference, you’ll decide whether you want
the service to take place before or after the body has been cremated.
When the service takes place before the cremation, it is the same
as a traditional funeral, with the casket present.
When
the service takes place after the cremation, it is referred to as
a “memorial service”. Generally, the urn containing
the cremated remains will be on display during the memorial service.
A
service also can be held at the “graveside” in a cemetery
before the cremated garden or placed in an above ground columbarium,
also known as a “niche”.
Another
alternative is to hold a “scattering” ceremony. Cremated
remains can be scattered in a cremation garden, at sea, or even
from an aircraft. Since there may be some legal restrictions regarding
scattering in your area, we will advice you accordingly.
